#11950 assigned bug
Accessing line input more than one way (not at the same time) causes media lockup

Description
If I do recordings from the line input, it works fine, even if I save a recorded file, record another, etc. If I then open SoundPlay and try to get it to access the line input, media server appears to freeze, and can't be restarted by resetting it in Preferences. A reboot is required.
Note that I'm *not* trying to do both at the same time. Just one, then the other.
If I haven't been doing any recording in Soundrecorder, then I can repeatedly access line input in SoundPlay without any problems. So it's as though using SoundRecorder puts Haiku media into some sort of "mode" that locks out access from other programs, and causes the media server problems if an attempt to access live input is made by one...(sheer speculation).
I'm using gigabyte mobo with HDA audio. hrev 48960

Just tried in 50041, if I launch SoundPlay with "input:" URL, then /quit/ SoundPlay, then launch SoundRecorder and record, it's a no go: I get an alert box with message "cannot connect to the selected sound input: resource.. busy (..800000e)", and if looking around I can see that SoundPlay is in fact still listed in the deskbar, and it still has a node listed in Cortex (which remains even if I hard-kill SoundPlay).
Gotta 1) try a more recent hrev (saw your changes Barrett thx) and 2) beef up my test, 3) try something else than SoundPlay. Would be happy if someone beats me to it since I have several things going on though :-)

The node you see in Cortex after killing the program and restarting Cortex isn't really a node anymore. It's a relic of the media_server bug related to release applications, often this will appear only in Cortex and not in Media preferences. I think I'll test with SoundPlay soon. What does exactly mean "input" URL?

Replying to Barrett:

Use menu "File" > "Open URL..."
In the window which pops up, type input:
If it won't work, check in preferences > plugins > decoders that you have "audio input" listed and enabled. Tell me if that works
