#12254 assigned bug

No HAIKU boot screen on Intel BX440 with Matrox G400

Reported by: Alexco Owned by: nobody
Priority: normal Milestone: Unscheduled
Component: System/Boot Loader Version: R1/Development
Keywords: Cc:
Blocked By: Blocking:
Platform: x86

Description

Installed Haiku parallel to BeOS R5 on my Dual Celeron Abit BP6 box with Matrox G400 AGP VGA card. Selecting Haiku from Be's boot manager results in "black" screen (TFT even goes into standby due to no signal) during entire boot. Desktop is then displayed correctly again. This does not happen if I exchange the MGA card with a Voodoo4 PCI card.

I have verified that this issue still exists on hrev50533 x86_gcc2 using the following hardware:

device Display controller (VGA compatible controller, VGA controller) [3|0|0] vendor 102b: Matrox Electronics Systems Ltd. device 0525: MGA G400/G450

I did some testing with hrev51259 x86_gcc2. The issue still remains but if I configure a different screen resolution of my desktop (e.g. 1152x864x32, 75Hz),Haiku boots up nicely with logo in 1024x768x32 (yes, boot loader option still says "default resolution").

Still the same with beta1, beta2 and beta3. Beta4 ends up in kernel panic during boot (see #18310).
