#12851 new bug

My printer is recognized by the print preflet, but any printer driver is unable to make it usable.

Description

Well, I have an HP Deskjet 2540 printer (connected to USB): when I go in the printer preflet, the printer is recognized on the USB port by any driver (gutenprint, PCL, PS and so on) as shown in the attached screenshot: is also recognized by the listusb command: I've tried any possible combination of printer drivers: however, when I see the list of available printers (with any driver) the most near printer which I see is the HP DeskJet 2500. I stated "unable to make it usable" by to the fact that when I attempt to print a test page, nothing will happen. Maybe this ticket could be set as enhancement, to ad the support for such printer?

Try to set a page range in the print setup (see ticket #12571 for explanation).

Hi Vidrep,

I tried your suggestion, but inside the Page Setup I don't see any reference to the page range (I am currently using the GutenPrint driver, and I choosed the HP Deskjet 2500 driver, since the 2540 is not available in the list):

I also tried using the PCL6 driver, but I still don't see the ability to set a range of pages. I suspect that this could be due to the fact that my printer is not supported at all.

Actually the tab you have shown is the "Paper Setup"; incorrectly identified as the "page Setup" (another bug). There should be a second selection available for the actual "Page Setup" (screenshot1), which when selected should provide adjustments for color, print quality and page range etc (screenshot2). Please try again. I think you're missing a step somewhere. I suggest you select "Print..." rather than "Page setup..." from the "File" dropdown menu.

Ok Vidrep: I got it (I had to press ok in the first section, then the second section appeared in the print prefernces), however still no luck: I am still unable to print.

Can you print a screenshot of the "Printjob setup"? Can you log into #haiku IRC chat?

comment:8 by vidrep, 8 years ago

That looks OK. Are you using "HP Jetdirect" print transport?

I've tried my printer with any driver and transport except with "HP JetDirect", since it asks for "<printer's hostname or address>", and my printer is not connected to my router, also if is able to connect to my network. I use the printer only via USB.

Well: looking at the http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/p_Supported_Printers.php (GutenPrint Supported Printers list) , the HP DeskJet 2540 is not present, so couldn't be an Haiku's fault. However I see that in the Print preferences there are available others drivers:

@vidrep: which printer do you have?

I have a pair of HP printers: HP Photosmart 6520 HP Photosmart 2610 Printing appears to work in varying degrees regardless of which Gutenprint HP driver I use. Try a few different drivers until you find one that produces a good copy from plain text (StyledEdit). HP scanners are not currently detected by Haiku.
