Description (last modified by diver)

Would be good to have a option to rotate a video file in MediaPlayer... like in ShowImage... Rotate clockwise (alt+r) an counterclockwise (shift+alt+r)... Some videos I accidentally recorded wrong with my smartphone... hopefully I am not the only one having this problem...

Yes that's why it would be great to have!

Otherwise one have to use an Video Editor just to rotate a video!!!

Btw: In VLC you can rotate a video ;-) But it is very difficult to use

My wife recorded several videos on her smartphone during our last summer vacation that require the viewer to lay sideways to watch. So, this is not an uncommon issue. The fact that other media players do not support a rotation feature is not sufficient reason to not explore such a possibility for Haiku.

According to this http://superuser.com/questions/578321/how-to-rotate-a-video-180-with-ffmpeg it might be possible to detect such videos and autorotate them.

No need to autorotate them... Better would be the user to make the deccision... Feels better on user-side...

I think the issue is that sometimes phones embedded the wrong information in the video (I've done this before) where even playing back the video on the phone itself it would attempt to rotate it incorrectly.

This ticket is not the same as Ticket #14510 where one want to rotate the whole screen for laptops and i-pads and that like! I just want to note that!

If I take a video with my smartphone, I hold it horizontal because it should behave like a photo-camera but some smartphones autorotate the videos to wrong rotation! Right click or alt+r to rotate a video is best way to make a user happy!

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
