#13974 closed bug (invalid)

External monitor shows "out of range" with intel_extreme driver and GMA X3100

Reported by: T.Knez Owned by: pulkomandy
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: Drivers/Graphics/intel_extreme/9xx Version: R1/Development
Keywords: Cc:
Blocked By: Blocking:
Platform: All

Description

Booting with the monitor attached renders in a black screen on the ThinkPad and "out of range" on the external monitor. Plugging in the monitor after a successful boot renders in a "out of range" message on the monitor.

If I then try to switch resolution to a known working one at this stage the ThinkPads screen turns black until I disconnect the external monitor. I have tried different monitors, so it's something with the intel_extreme driver

"listdev" gives me this info about the display controller:

device Display controller [3|80|0]

vendor 8086: Intel Corporation device 2a03: Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (secondary)

device Display controller (VGA compatible controller, VGA controller) [3|0|0]

vendor 8086: Intel Corporation device 2a02: Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (primary)

Syslog when booting with the monitor connected and disconnected are attached to this post.

It reminds me #7594.

Just wanted to chime in that I tried this with the latest nightly of the x86 (32bit) build and the error is the same. So it's not only a x86-64 problem.

Yet another update. Same problem on my ThinkPad X220 with "Intel HD Graphics 3000". Only tested with 32bit hybrid build on this machine.

Listdev names it like this:

device Display controller (VGA compatible controller, VGA controller) [3|0|0]
  vendor 8086: Intel Corporation
device 0126: 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller
