Description
On my daily used hardware, a Dell Inspiron 1720, after some investigation Found out that the sound chip is a HD compatible Sigmatel 9205 chip. Code is STAC92xx with Vendor ID 8384. But the sound chip seems not to be activated during startup. Maybe there are some vendor Ids missing in the driver?
If this chip would be supported, maybe a whole bunch of Dell Laptops are then supported in one go.
I don't have any experience in drivers coding, but I can test on my Hardware if it works.

If by HD compatible you mean intel HD like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_High_Definition_Audio Do you also have no sound with headphone. On this MSI computer sound work but only with headphone: https://dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/18244

@AlienSoldier: The trick with the headphones works. How did you come up with that?
In the Audio&Video App in the HD Audio settings the "Speaker" section stays empty, just the "Headphones" side shows a volume control.
However, sound on a laptop should work on speaker and on headphone.

"How did you come up with that?" Everyone is asking me that everyday.
I am kind of happy to see other computers with the problem, it should make fixing and testing this easier.
If you could add a copy of syslog and output of listdev as attachment, it would help the person who will look at it. Thanks.
