Axel extended the Workspaces trick to be able to have it working with any number of views in the same or in other apps. I think the old trick was at the window level, so that broke the original Workspaces. This is an app_server special feature, in this case we have extended it in a nice way I would think so I guess we can close this as "won't fix". :-)
