What happens, if you press <enter>reb<enter> at the blank screen ?

comment:2 by diogo, 15 years ago

After a while the numlock stops working so after or before that <enter>reb<enter> does exactly nothing but the hd light of the laptop doesn't stop to blink which means haiku is looking at the hd and seeking something there..

Replying to Adek336:

What happens, if you press <enter>reb<enter> at the blank screen ?

Reinstalled the system with jam -q from my linux and then I got the same problem blank screen but when I did <enter>reb<enter> it rebooted the system.

Ah, so you're in KDL for some reason. es<enter> should let you advance further with booting, perhaps you'll need to type that a couple of times.

(In #10540) Indeed, it looks like a dupe of #3177. Closing as such.

Attached serial debug logs for alpha4.1 and hrev46791 (ref. #10540) Alpha4.1 boot from hard drive partition. hrev46791 boot from USB drive.

Attached serial debug log for hrev46791 with fail safe video mode. After it boots - KDL.

Summary: hrev46626_x86_64 installs and boots to the same PC without issues using on board graphics. Video present on VGA and DVI output. However, only VESA mode supported. hrev46791_dev no video on VGA or DVI using on board graphics. Selecting fail safe video causes KDL after booting. I'll attach a serial debug log from x86_64 for comparison.

The radeon driver has been added in hrev46794 for x86_64 builds. So in hrev46626 VESA driver was used instead for this card. From the attachment:hrev46791_fs_video_KDL.txt line 1965

usb_disk: acquire_sem failed while waiting for data transfer: Operation timed out
usb_disk: read failed: Operation timed out

it looks like usb_disk driver fails to read some files (from haiku package) from your usb thumb due to above errors. Try unplugging all other usb devices/use different port for your usb thumb. In any case, I think this issue deserves it's own ticket.

See #10545 for USB issue.

Installed hrev 47847. The radeon driver still does not support this chipset, even though it is 10 years old. System must boot into fail safe video mode , otherwise only a "no signal" error on the monitor.

This looks like it could be a duplicate of ticket #2342

I'm not so sure about that. Someone with more knowledge than me in the ATI driver should make that call...

The ATI Xpress 1150, 1250 and 1600 are all related chipsets.(Radeon Xpress 200 series)

I took the PC with the on board ATI Xpress 1150 to the recyclers last week. So no more testing from me on this one. If somebody thinks they might have a look at this ticket again soon I can try to get it back.
