Ah, I understand very well what you are talking about. This was one of the few things that were heavily discussed during the design stage of the PackageInstaller. I originally wanted to have such a feature, since I saw it very very useful, but since the installer was planned to be as simple as possible, the idea was eventually dropped. If I remember correctly though, we agreed on creating another application someday, called PackageInspector, which would have such functionalitty (as well as many more). The idea was to have a different application for browsing through all available package information, just like files to be installed, version, description and so on. But eventually, this is yet waiting for implementation.

But someday I will most certainly get back to this project - along with finishing the InstalledPackages application (for browsing and uninstallation).

So sorry for my bad english :) I can understand, this is only a small feature, and not everybody needs it, but if somebody will implement it i will be happy :)

Thanks sil2100 for the fast answer.

I'm missing this feature too, as it was very transparent to show user where new files will be after installation. Please add it if possible!

I know, since I am missing this functionality as well. I will try to get back to it as soon as possible, maybe trying to discuss it again with the usability team. I would prefer it to be accessible from the PackageInstaller directly, either by a 'installed files'-like button (like in the original idea) or an 'inspect package' button.

Ah, yes! Almost forgot about this ticket - it's been a while!

I think this issue needs to be discussed with someone from the packaging-work team. The original idea was to make an inspector and uninstall app for legacy packaging, but since not many legacy packages are around anymore, maybe simply adding this functionality to the installator would be enough.

Although I would like to consult the actual future of the PackageInstaller with the devs anyway.

After a short discussion, we came to the conclusion that sticking to what we've got is the best way out. Once I get a free time slice on my hand, I'll simply add the tree view to the application. As for the uninstaller - well, it was almost ready some time ago, but revisiting old code might be troublesome. So I'd leave it for later.

With the PM we don't actually need this anymore. Maybe as an enhancement for PackageDepot...

You can close this ticket.
