IMAP background thread does not appear to work correctly

Description
After initially syncing an IMAP mailbox, one can no longer pick Send and Receive within the same session of MDR (quit/restart does correctly allow you to use it again...once). Compounding this problem, the background IMAP thread does not appear to get notifications of new messages, and eventually even times out indicating that it lost its connection to the IMAP server.
