And can you also please retest with a more recent Haiku revision? Since this definitely works over here, I guess this might have been a temporary regression that has long been fixed.

In hrev32975 same black sreen whether overlay is enabled or disabled in VLC preferences. Anyway I think overlay is alwasys disabled because of "(Bitmap)" string in video window.
I'll test on newer build(s) later.

hrev34164, problem still exists.
But when I boot into Haiku in emulator (QEMU) all video players play back video normally, no black screens.

Just tested in VMWare - same situation as with real hardware, video only in MediaPlayer.

Hi, Is this still a problem for you? As far as I can tell VLC works fine here (version 0.8.6i)
Can you try to disable overlays in VLC ?
