#6479 closed enhancement (duplicate)

[Installer] change optional packages layout in installer

Reported by: jstressman Owned by: korli
Priority: normal Milestone: R1
Component: Applications/Installer Version: R1/Development
Keywords: Cc: jstressman@…
Blocked By: Blocking:
Platform: All

Description

In the Installer (hrev38293 and hrev38307 for reference), if you click the "show optional packages" drop down, the Installer window expands, but it doesn't go back to it's original size when you collapse that section again. Leaving a big blank area.

'yourpalal' in #haiku suggested that perhaps the optional packages dialog should be moved to a second "page" after a "next" button where the "begin" button is now. (Thus paving the way for more package management options in the future, rather than having them stuck amidst the partition options.)

See #5772. It's even listed under Installer component. :-)

Summary: Show Optional Packages uses bad layout in installer.[Installer] change optional packages layout in installer

Since 'diver' is correct and I failed to properly search for this bug before posting (my apologies!), we can make this just about the latter half of the ticket as an enhancement rather than a bug.

The layout issue is covered in #5772, but also aside from that...

'yourpalal' in #haiku suggested that perhaps the optional packages dialog should be moved to a second "page" after a "next" button where the "begin" button is now. This would pave the way for more package management options in the future, rather than having them stuck amidst the partition options.

So the layout issue would still have to be addressed, but this could be wrapped into preparing a/the package management section of the installer?

IMHO, Installer does not follow a wizard style, and thus a separate page would be misplaced. It could be ok though, perhaps as tab interface even, but not with a Next button. That goes against the entire workflow as it is at the moment, and I am quite fond of it.

Since optional packages should be eventually installed by package manager I'm going to close this one.

I don't think that recursive duplicates is a good idea.
