Description (last modified by )
Hello. I have installed the latest Nightly of Haiku on my Asus G73sw laptop. When it boots onto the desktop, I hear some noise for a few seconds. It sounds a bit like static radio noise, but not quite the same... Then it goes quiet.
I downloaded an MP3 and tried to play it in MediaPlayer. As soon as I hit Play, the noise starts louder and more annoying than before.
The noise is similar to what I remember from the old days, Playing Commander Keen on Windows 98, when suddenly it crashes. The same millisecond of the audio track plays in a loop, like a piston engine or machine gun.
If I hit Stop or Play, or quit MediaPlayer, the pitch or volume of the noise can change. But it's still there.
Haiku's volume control does NOT affect the volume of this noise.
Everything else seems fine. The computer does not hang, it's just playing terrible noise instead of music.
I would try alpha 3, but it fails to boot altogether. So I don't know if it's an old bug. It is a wery new gaming laptop with Sandy Bridge. Here is the output from lspci in Ubuntu:

Tell me if you need more info to solve this.
The problem happens both when running live off a USB stick, and when installed on hard drive.

Hi I am terribly sorry I haven`t been able to answer in 10 months.
I booted the latest nightly on the same machine (Asus G73Sw), and got it online using cable. I downloaded an MP3 and played it. The music plays while writing this. So it works fine now. Volume control in deskbar and MediaPlayer also work.
I still have a problem with wifi on this laptop. When booted from a CD it immediately finds several available wifi networks. So the wireless stuff almost works. Almost. I try to connect to my home wifi, but a popup says: Could not join wireless network: Application could not be found
What is wrong with wifi? The wifi is encrypted with wpa2, by the way.

I set my phone as an un-encrypted wifi hotspot. Haiku does not refresh the list of available networks, so I had to reboot Haiku. After reboot, Haiku flawlessly connected to the hotspot. I am writing this in Haiku, connected to internet through my phone wifi hotspot.
The error message "Application could not be found" seems to be a WPA2-related issue. Any ideas? I thought wpa_supplicant was included in the nightlies now?
