#18150 closed bug (no change required)

Expander and creating a directory to expand to.

Description

The dialog window when asking to create a file with expander only allow a mouse selection. Tab show a blue rectangle changing between create and cancel, but when pressing enter cancel always win. So unless we click create with the mouse pointer the directory can't be created.

I also think that using key arrow for the selection would add to the user friendlyness (not everybody know that tab can parse GUI fields and buttons).

I cannot quit parse this ticket... How do you create a file with Expander? I don't see any tabs in the Expander app?

Sorry i said file but wanted to say directory (even if this is kinda the same in beos-haiku). When you click on a file to expand, in the "destination" field just write someting after the "/". That will be the newly created directory (created only using the keyboard and not the mouse). Using tab to navigate all this work and using enter on "expand" also work, so the problem is not on the expander GUI but on the notification panel that pop where only cancel seem to work with the keyboard.

Now I understand. I never even triggered those BAlerts...

However, this is not a bug, but standard behaviour. The default button in BAlerts are always triggered with ENTER. To trigger a selected button (with the blue outline) you press SPACE.

With this Expander alert there was a different bug however: ESC didn't "Cancel" the alert, but triggered creating the folder. I proposed a change with https://review.haiku-os.org/c/haiku/+/5946.
It switches button positions, as "Create" should be the default and therefore placed to the right side.

I did find the BAlerts being curiously layouted though. Opening #18155 for that...
