Description
mga driver is missing in bugzilla so I picked nvidia instead.
There are color palette problems on Matrox Mystique G200. Same problems on BeOS. No problems with Be's supplied drivers. 32 bit mode looks like 8 bit. 16 bit mode is green and black. 15 bit mode is completely black. 8 bit mode has a couple of grey colors, white and black.

Hi,
This bug is a known bug since a few years. Unfortunately I still did not encounter this bug on a G200 card myself, so I cannot fix it. I already tried via mail, but we hit lack of specs here! These G200's are a special breed: most of the (other) G200's outthere are fully OK.
Details: The colorpalette registers are correctly adressed according to the specs released by matrox. Unfortunately these special G200's don't follow this spec, but are different somehow.
For me to have any chance on succes for fixing this, I need access to a malfunctioning card. Sorry the news can't be better at this time...
Rudolf.

Hello! I've got a replacement for my card now, so if you want the Mystique G200 I can send it to you. Contact me with your address if you want me to send it.
Off topic: The new card is a NVIDIA GeForce 4 Ti. It didn't get recognized in BeOS with the driver from the build factory (got the grey mode and warning popup) even though in Haiku it works great (with the driver incuded in the image). The version from BeBits worked fine though.

Thanks to Fredrik Ekdahl (who sent me his card, thanks!) this bug is now solved. After 4 years (back then this error was reported first) I now had a malfunctioning G200 in my hands, and it turns out it has a MAVEN on it. This is a chip that gives these cards TVoutput capability, and the driver incorrectly ID'd cards with this chip as being dualhead.
This enabled dualhead related programming, of which CRTC2 DPMS turn-off was responsible for the colorpalette trouble.
Now it's OK: since matrox driver V0.29. Owners of those rare ('special') G100 and G200 cards (or having it on special mainboards) can now finally switch to the Haiku driver. If anyone still has this problem, let me know!
Rudolf.
